The 2011 Best Places to Work in Indiana program is history. But 2012 applications are not that far away. Before leaving the current year, I wanted to share news about three companies that I had the opportunity to profile for the current BizVoice magazine.
As we say each year at the awards celebration, there is far from enough time to fully describe what makes these organizations special. These approximate one-page articles give us writers a little more room to elaborate, although I always feel we’re still doing an injustice.
Here are my contributions to this go-around. Congratulations to these companies and all the winners:
- Lawson-Fisher Associates in South Bend, where the team approach is taken to a new level
- Clifton Gunderson in Indianapolis, where flexibility and individual development rules
- Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, where customer service is king throughout the organization
And I always have to put a plug in for the short video capturing the awards celebration. It’s simply a very special event.
I was intrigued a few months ago when the 2011 Best Places to Work in Indiana winners came out and Horseshoe Casino in Hammond was listed. First, not enough gaming/entertainment organizations participate in this employee evaluation process. Second, the odds (no pun intended) are somewhat stacked against such a business compared to the more traditional "office settings" that make it easier to promote a strong workplace culture.
