IDEM Initiating Clean Air Indiana Campaign

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) wants you — or at least your business — to participate in a new Clean Air Indiana campaign. There is both a Clean Air Indiana Pledge and Business Challenge.

According to IDEM:

The goal is to reduce ground-level ozone. This pollutant forms when emissions – volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) – from manufacturing, transportation and other common activities combine in hot, sunny weather. It’s unhealthy for anyone to breathe, but especially for children, the elderly and individuals with lung or heart disease.

As a participant in the Clean Air Indiana campaign, you will find numerous ways to help reduce unhealthy emissions, improve Indiana’s air quality, reduce business costs, help your employees and earn recognition. Areas with clean air enjoy good quality of life and the opportunity for healthy business growth and a thriving economy.

The good news is that Hoosier businesses have been working hard to improve air quality in all regions of Indiana. Because today’s federal air health standard is more protective than ever before, we cannot stop now.

The peak period is from June 15 through June 30, when all regions of the state experience long sunlight hours and, historically, higher ozone levels. IDEM provides an online business toolkit to help you get started and staff members are available to provide additional technical assistance.
